2014 MMF Music Educator of the Year Announced

Tim-Allen-MMF-Music-Educator-2014

Congratulations to Tim Allen for being named the 2014 Master Musicians Festival Music Educator of the Year!

Each year the Master Musicians Festival honors someone who made a significant impact as a educator of music in the Lake Cumberland Region. Every performer on the MMF stage has had someone who has guided or inspired them, and it is time to say "Thank You." The MMF board takes nominations all year long and votes each year to honor someone that has dedicated their life to the importance of music education.

Tim Allen currently is the Director of Instrumental Ensembles at Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia, Kentucky. He was the Director of Bands at Adair County Schools in Columbia, Kentucky having taught there for twenty-eight years.  He obtained his Bachelor of Music Education Degree from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, and holds a Master’s Degree from Western Kentucky University.

Mr. Allen is a recipient of the National Band Association’s Citation of Marching Excellence and the Outstanding Young Band Director of Kentucky Award in 1985.  In 2005 he received Phi Beta Mu’s Outstanding Bandmaster in Kentucky.  In addition, he is a member of the Kentucky Music Educators Association, having served many offices at both the district and state level, and is past president of the Psi Chapter of the International Bandmasters Fraternity, Phi Beta Mu.  Mr. Allen has served as a clinician and adjudicator throughout the United States.

Under Mr. Allen’s direction, the Adair County High School Band earned numerous distinguished ratings and first place awards in both concert and marching band. The high school concert band  never received less than an overall distinguished rating at KMEA Concert Festivals since 1981.  Since the inception of the Kentucky State Marching Championships in 1986, the Adair County Band has won eighteen State Marching Championships in its class under Mr. Allen’s direction.  The Adair County Marching Band was also named the 2005 and 2007 Bands of America Class A National Champion, and represented the Commonwealth of Kentucky in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2009.
