Donovan Howard was raised in rural Rockcastle County, an hour south of the major city of Lexington. He began performing at 18. Over the years, he learned to play guitar, drums, bass, banjo, mandolin and harmonica. His first performance was at church at the age of eighteen.
Life experiences and stories told by others are the influences in his songwriting. You will hear those influences of Steve Earl, Guy Clark, Exile as well as others with his music.
Quote “Music can heal wounds you don’t even realize you have”
In 2024, the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame named Donovan Howard as their Artist in Residence. The program recognizes one individual or group that shows potential and represents Kentucky music as a whole.
